Our Story

In August 2004, Bridget and her husband Tad purchased The Historic Decker Electric Building on Elm Street in Three Oaks, Michigan, a cultural hub nestled amongst the lakeside towns that make up Harbor Country.

Known for its theaters, galleries, specialty shops, gourmet dining, a distillery, and its own radio station, Harbor Country has been affectionately called the “Hamptons of the Midwest.” The Verduns’ extensive renovation of the property resulted in Studio b., a fine art gallery and artisan shop created by Bridget.

Inspired by famous quotations, she launched Occasionally Speaking, her line of fine greeting cards, in 2007. Letterpress printed on a vintage Kluge press with soy ink on 100% cotton stationery imported from Italy, each card is beautifully designed, simple, and elegant and hand assembled with care.

Bridget’s formal training in graphic design coupled with her experience owning an art gallery, along with over two decades of professional experience in the corporate world, inform this work as she successfully produces and markets artful cards and products that inspire the art of living well.

Today, Occasionally Speaking produces cards with 56 different quotes for countless occasions that are carried by 700-plus retailers, including Whole Foods Market, Paper Source, and Barnes & Noble stores. Fifteen years after the first spark of an idea, their cards have helped more than 750,000 people send words of encouragement, comfort, inspiration, and joy.
